Well. Huh… Been looking at so many various things on and on for time, like Subscriptions and Pricing to engage with companies, offers — like National Trust [stands out]. #
I’ve even seen some of these options when buying Subs to a rather famous “Charity Raffle” [REALLY Stood Out]
… And then you get to the Discounts Options for them… and it’s a WIDE range of… Genres/Types?… of companies:
There’s Quite A Few Options, spread over the various things I’ve stumbled over:
-
Kids
-
Older Kids (maybe 12-18)
-
18-25
-
[even Key Workers; depending on what you’re looking at]
-
“Seniors”
… THE END
You know what? Missing 95%+ of the time from them is Disabilities. Always NOTHING for Disabled People. Because apparently anyone with Disabilities are rolling in money and/or perfectly able to manage whatever it is you’re charging quire Perfectly. Better than Young Adults or “Seniors”… Apparently.
There’s bizarre logic, like the National Trust has. who comes back saying “[well], you can get a ‘carer’ in for free”… Well. And?? Can’t go into most of the gardens OR to the upper floors of a lot of the houses — And even Entirely UNABLE To Access AT ALL a rather startling proportion of their properties and spaces — ‘Assistant’ or not. And if I just go Alone, that then doesn’t even MEAN Anything TO Me…?
I’m left completely bewildered, wondering how anyone Disabled is MORE able to manage the pricing and the ability to use the subscription as anyone over 60/65…? A LOT of people in their 60s and older are actually healthier and fitter than some of those in their 40s these days, and those certainly have more time and energy, and less stress, than any Disabled Person [of any age]. Some have even more money with cashed-in pensions, multiple pensions, extra part-time work, and so on [and yes, there’s plenty struggling — but this point is about BLANKET Rules; and as a BLANKET, the ‘denomination’ of JUST “SENIORS” is Not really at ALL… Balanced].
My Own Parents are about a THOUSAND TIMES better than I am.
My paternal grandmother started touring half the world starting at 70yo. She was a Badass Impressive Woman!
My mother was an RN for 50 Years and was 65yo when she retired, but half or more of that decision was due to her employers at the Care Home being Dodgy GIMPS. She’s 69yo now and her long-term arthritis is getting a bit more dodgy — but still managing pretty damned well.
My father’s 74; he cycles around Snowdonia like it’s nothing, walked the dogs for MILES (and went cycling with them!), is a great musician and has gigs in several local Nursing Homes, who LOVE him. In his very late 60s he drove Special Needs kids to school and they REALLY Loved him, probably even more! He cooks my dinner and makes what little I CAN eat Very Yummy.
… And yet, I’ve been Severely Disabled since I was 33yo. The Severity of my Disabilities generally tend to be thought about as universal to 90yo people in Nursing Homes; not a struggling young woman trying to Redefine Her Existence & Do Whatever She Can, The Best That She Can… Then being CONSTANTLY Failed by the NHS for the next 12 years & FIGHTING for PIP/ESA/UC… aka Peanuts & Pocket Money.
~~~~ Sometimes I wonder if I might be better off literally being “REGISTERED” as “Disabled” — as the idiots in the Mass Media always stupidly claim we are — because THEN I could just hand in my Membership Card and get my discounts like “Seniors” do with their IDs…. ~~~~
So… I REALLY can’t see how BLANKETED “Seniors” are worse off than someone in their mid-30’s who is Disabled — newly-paralysed and needs their “Senior” parents to make their food and mum to wash and dress them…? And 10 Years Later… STILL in that position. Because NHS is STILL Not Helping.
And yet… STILL Not even allowed some small Financial Assistance towards something interesting/fun/unusual/helpful by these companies I’ve come across. That basically means =>Not being seen, acknowledged, addressed, or Relevant.
Feels like something is SERIOUSLY BACKWARDS here: “We want to help you if you’re ‘old’, but if you’re Disabled we don’t want even acknowledge your existence, never mind give you any help, whatsoever”…?
…Great Marketing — for Ableists.
Well. Unless they're wholly daft and think they’re covered under “Seniors”… In which case, I truly have Just. NO. Words.
